HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

I was actually cleaning my basement and my daughter put the nest around her waist and my wheels started spinning. I was going to throw the old wreath away and thought that would make a cute costume idea. My husband was less than convinced until I showed him the finished product.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

THE MASK: I used a solid white mask from Michaels arts and crafts, I colored it with a brown sharpie and then glued feathers (also purchased from Michaels )to it with a hot glue gun. I then took a piece of yellow fun foam and cut out and glued the nose onto the mask. I glued a piece of green elastic to the mask so that it would fit over my head.

THE COSTUME: I used an old wreath probably purchased from Michaels or another craft store as the nest. I bought a can of robins egg blue spray paint and sprayed a white tank top that I had blue. I was going to paint my belly but it was vey cold that night. I then took an old brown tank top that I had and I glued the same feathers to it that I used for my mask. I wore a pair of earrings that I had, a brown shrug and green leggings to resemble a tree. I wore brown boots made by hair a little crazy with some feathers in it also and there you have it…Mamma Bird!

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

Everyone that saw me would say how cute it was. Others said, “Oh look she’s nesting.” “When is that egg going to hatch.” It made for a fun night!

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

I browsed through Google searching for maternity costume ideas, but did not find anything that really appealed to me. Then one day I just thought of how perfect it would be if I could be Mother Nature. I myself am nuturing this precious life within me; just as Mother Nature is percieved as a giver of life.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

I made the skirt using brown cotton fabric, tulle, and mesh. The innermost layer of the skirt is all cotton. I then used a hot glue gun to glue strips of the fabrics previously mentioned to the visible areas. My goal was to have the overall texture of the costume to look like a tree. By twisting and weaving the fabrics around each other, I accomplished a very textured look. I bought the shirt and made it match the skirt by using the same twisting and weaving fabric process. I did leave a cluster of mesh on my right shoulder for a dramatic effect and to add balance to the vine that is climbing up the left side of my shirt and into my hair. I bought the vine (garland) to add to my hair along with the feather clip. My belly was painted with bue and green creme makeup to look like the world, because I have the whole world in my hands. The tree on my face was created by using brown and green eye shadow, washable crayola markers, and glow in the dark creme makeup. I wore earrings that were little leaves, a necklace shaped like a leaf, and another green necklace all to add to the nature theme.

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

People loved it! I heard so many times how much they loved my belly and hair especially. I posted some pictures of my costume on my Facebook page and have gotten so many wonderful compliments on it. Everyone seems to love it. I’ve had comments like “This is amazing, You look awesome, So cute.” Strangers asked to take pictures with me as well, and I take that as a compliment for sure.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

My husband and I were invited out for Halloween the week before the party. My husband likes to be the center of the party, and said we need to come up with a funny costume. I wasn’t sure how we’d find something funny with me 6 months pregnant. I looked online and on Pinterest, but he didn’t think anything was original or funny enough. He then said, if you want to paint your belly, then we can do a watermelon and I can shave my beard and keep a mustache and can be Gallagher. Gallagher had just come to our small town 2 years ago.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

We bought a wig and cut it, and combed it to make it crazy. I went to the thrift store to buy the hat, suspenders, and striped shirt. My husband got a pole from something at work, a cylinder piece of styrofoam, and put them together. He used black duck tape to cover the styrofoam. I used green and white face paint to paint my belly.

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

Everyone recognized who my husband was right away, then they’d ask “where is your watermelon”, he then would point to my belly, people were howling. Random people were taking pictures of us. Many said we had the best costume of the night. People were really impressed with the originality of Gallagher and a watermelon belly.

I really had a blast with this costume. My husband also enjoyed telling everyone that his baby boy was in there! We thought there was limited tasteful, yet original ideas, for a pregnant woman. I felt this was a very fun way to enjoy Halloween while pregnant. Also the only time i will ever expose my stomach in public!

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

Last few days my kids-toddlers been asking me several and absolutely different questions, like “…what costume you, mom, will be wearing for Halloween…what can wear our brother being inside you..,what will happened if any of us will wear scary costume..who wear scary costumes, only bad people?and many more…So,I decided to answer to their questions entertaining them with my creativity. Also,Iwanted to show my kids that anybody can look scary, not just bad persons, they shouldn’t be afraid of costumes,be creative and show to their brother the proof-pictures, later on, of his “participation” in almost his ” first” Halloween.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

I had a witch hat from last year, scary glasses I bought for kids in Wal-Mart(borrowed for some time from them) .Last year we painted a few gourds as a Halloween Jack O’Lanterns with kids(I used mine).Lipstick helped me with my face makeup and acrylic paint(left from last year, after painting gourds)I used to paint my belly. I was wearing black sweater and black sportive pants. To make an accent and more dramatic view to my costume I put an orange piece of cloth around my lower back and back side of my legs. The most difficult part was painting the mouth of Jack O’Lantern on my belly-I couldn’t see it there. So,I was standing in front of a mirror watching at my reflection and trying my best to make dissent mouth of the main and most important part of my “costume”.

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

My kids were exited. They said:”Wow,it’s kind scary,We like it! Our little brother can have fun with us!Mom,do you think he likes to wear “pumpkin suit” ,even he is inside? Can you paint your belly again tomorrow and go like this to trick or treat with us?can you paint our belly and mouth, too?” They kept rubbing my belly-pumpkin,saying:”Good boy”.My sister said it doesn’t look right, only don’t scary our parents…My husband didn’t like this idea much,too..He asked me:”Did our neighbours sow you?Don’t go outside in this costume, please”

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT THIS COSTUME OR YOUR EXPERIENCE?

All the pictures of me were taken by my daughter-toddler.
