HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

Every year I like to create a costume of a person that was one of the “it” people for that year. This year it just happened to be Si Robertson from the Duck Dynasty show.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

I sewed Otie’s costume myself. I purchased camo material and used a pattern for a horse blanket, then I added legs and arms. I purchased a beard w/ mustache and a wig and hat. I also found a huge duck call and placed a Duck Commander decal on it. Otie’s boots were from a costume I made about 11 years ago for one of my other horses. I found a pair of oversized glasses and used roping material for the glasses keeper.

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

I actually thought that most people at my barn wouldn’t know who Si was, but to my surprise they did. Even the young kids said, ” Look … he’s Si from Duck Dynasty!” Otie ended up winning First Place today at our barn’s costume contest.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT THIS COSTUME OR YOUR EXPERIENCE?

This was Otie’s second Halloween Costume Contest, as he acquired that job from Buzz, after Buzz retired. Buzz won about 6 years in a row and Otie has continued on winning his first two contests.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

I always try to come up with a unique costume for my dog. I searched the internet for ideas of characters to dress her in. I’ve always loved the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie. I thought she would look cute as an Oompa Loompa. When starting to plan the costume I decided to make her into two Oompa Loompa’s.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

I started searching thrift stores for items for her costume. I first found two brown turtlenecks. I then used two pair of white shorts from my daughters closet to make up the Oompa Loompa’s outfit. I placed it on her and pinned each together. I stuffed the arms of the shirts with stuffing and pinned white gloves on for the hands. I bought a mask from the dollar store and painted it orange to look like an Oompa Loompa. I then stuffed the neck of the back turtleneck with stuffing and pinned the mask to it. I then placed one green wig on the dogs head and pinned one on the back Oompa Loompa. I took a cardboard box top and painted it to look like a Wonka bar and placed it on the dogs back. I used pipe cleaners to attach the hands of the Oompa Loompa’s to the Wonka bar to make it look like they were carrying the bar. I found that removable bra straps work best for attaching it all to the dog. They are running from one Oompa Loompa to the other, hidden under the Wonka bar. I also found some dog spray paint that is safe to use on their skin and made the dogs face orange. For an added touch I dressed my little one as Willy Wonka finding all of her accessories, purple velvet coat, khaki pants, white button up shirt, and brown shoes at a consignment store. I also found a top hat at a party store and made a bow tie out of extra fabric I had.

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

Everyone absolutely loved our costume this year. They all agreed it was a very original idea with lots of details.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT THIS COSTUME OR YOUR EXPERIENCE?

Once all the items were purchased or made for this costume it did not take long at all to attach it to the dog. It will surely get lots of attention if anyone would be interested in making this in the future.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

I wanted something fun. So I looked online for some ideas and saw something like this. So once I decided what Riley (our dog) was going to be, then I started to think what my daughter should be. And then all of a sudden I realized that there is a nursery rhythm Little Miss Muffet and the Spider.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

I used black fleece, and fur that I bought from a fabric store. I also bought bendible wire covered with foam from a dollar store and painted it black. I cut the end foam off the wire to make the legs look skinnier at the bottom. Then I used filling to fill the body of the spider. I hot glued the fur on the legs and on the body. and sewed the rest together.

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

People couldn’t believe that I made this costume. They were amazed on how real it looked.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT THIS COSTUME OR YOUR EXPERIENCE?

Riley didn’t even mind wearing it. I thought for sure she would be running around in circles trying to eat off a leg.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

I got the idea for this costume from the internet

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

Lots of plastic aquarium plants, green and brown felt, velcro, and elastic were used to make this costume. Cut enough green felt to cover dog; cut hole big enough for dogs head; using boxwood plastic aquarium, removed from base; poke holes in green felt to fit plant stems through and reattached to plant base; hand sew plastic plant around face and edges; line bottom of cover with another piece of green felt and add strip of velcro to it Use brown felt to make legs. Attach front legs to each other with a strip of elastic; same with hind legs. added strip of green felt to attach front legs to hind legs (also keeps hind legs from slipping off); attached strip of velcro to strip of green felt; then simply attach plant cover to legs by matching up velcro strips!

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

Either people just stood there and laughed and/or said Chi Chi Chia!

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT THIS COSTUME OR YOUR EXPERIENCE?
