HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

A coworker suggested this idea to me. I am due Nov. 15th, so I have quite a belly to work with! I thought it would make a fun, easy, cost-efficient maternity costume so I went for it.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

I wasn’t sure if I was going to just stay in this Halloween or try to participate in the “festivities,” so I never actually bought a costume. It was very last minute that I decided to get out and help pass out candy at a friend’s house. I put this costume together entirely with things I already had in my closet. I used scarves, shawls, and some long chain necklaces (to go around the top of the skirt) and about as many bracelets as I could find! The headpiece is a tied up scarf. I found some purple tights to wear and put some spiderweb patterned fishnets over them. As part of my makeup, I used liquid eyeliner to draw a star and a moon next to my eyes.

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

Parents of trick-or-treaters absolutely loved the costume and were sure to point it out to each other, and even their kids! My family and coworkers all thought it was very creative.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

I looked online to purchase a maternity costume with no luck. Thought I could buy a regular costume and add to it to make our baby announcement. Spent hours online and saw a costume for thing 1 and 2. Thought it would be cute to do thing one and thing due.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

I used a red sweater dress from Ross for $13. Hoped to find a tutu at the Halloween store, but it was too tight for my belly. Headed to the craft store to see if I could make one.

Found the material and red ribbon for 8 bucks! It was $25 at the Halloween store. Found some cake tier circles and used stickers and puffy paint to make the signs. Used Xmas socks from the same store and a wig and makeup from kmart. Total spent around $55 and about 12 hours of crafting and shopping for something I never had done before before.

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

People loved the idea and wanted to take my pic to share with friends who were expecting. They thought it was cute and clever and surprised it wasn’t a costume created already. I wore it to work to announce to the public so it was a nice surprise and fun way to announce. I still have this weekend to strut our stuff.

I think I should win because I believe that hard work pays off. The money would be a blessing to our family and my first child. Been trying to conceive for years with a lot of disappointment. This is my longest pregnancy and I couldn’t be happier! You can tell by the permanent grin in my pics.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THIS COSTUME?

I came up with this costume in a very short amount of time. I am 28 weeks pregnant so I thought I would make a funny and clever costume to go with my pregnancy.

WHAT ITEMS DID YOU USE TO MAKE THIS COSTUME AND HOW?

I used a diaper box, duct tape, pill bottle caps, sharpie, colored pencils, computer paper, and a home made scrub outfit that has the Arkansas razorback logo.

WHAT REACTION DID YOU GET WHEN WEARING THIS COSTUME?

I got a lot of laughs from this costume. A lot of people at work told me how creative it was and my artwork was amazing. I even won most creative costume idea for my work contest. Some co-workers told me that I should enter into some contests because they believe I would win.

Except for the scrubs, my costume only required about 20-30 minutes to make.
